Le American Revolution Museum At Yorktown a 2 notes.
While the museum was beautiful and we enjoyed our visit so much, a lack of compassion toward myself and my elderly sister by the staff during the extreme heat wave spoke volumes to us - that a museum focused on the roots of Americana wasn't truly interested in their patrons nor the fact that these two came from a family of devoted servicemen. The young man who sold us our tickets and an older female gift-shop manager (?) pretty much closed the doors in our faces at quitting time when I tried to explain that we were stranded there without a ride back to our hotel in a 111° heat index and needed advice on public transportation. The entire lot was emptying out as everyone was going home while we waited for a trolley that never showed. In our panic (no water and unable to walk the mile in extreme heat to our hotel) we approached a stranger (after making multiple phone calls) and asked for a ride. She was an angel who took a risk for 2 complete strangers. While the museum was not responsible for our problem, we felt a museum that is all about America would have stopped long enough to show respect and courtesy toward 2 older women who needed assistance and a little kindness. We did not ask to be stranded nor did we ask for transportation -- only for advice. Their attitude was one of "too bad" and "we're closing". Once they closed, we had no opportunity for water or a solution to our problem. We felt we were a bother to the museum personnel and we did the only thing left to do -- we asked a complete stranger for a ride as everyone else had cleared the parking lot. A special thank you to the kind employee who showed compassion in the midst of a company that seemed to be lacking in it. If you see this, thank YOU for being an angel and a true American. Your employer is blessed to have you. We learned the next day that the trolley we were looking for had broken down with no way to get to us. Dear American Revolution Museum, please train your employees in compassion - a trait worthy of all those who call themselves Virginians. It is said that if you can be anything, be kind. I'm sure the Patriots your museum represents would want and expect it. Has the Commonwealth of Virginia dropped so low -- that two "lone" women had nowhere to turn? 😢
